IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys cut third tight end Scott Chandler to make room for Martin Rucker on the 53-man roster.
Chandler, a Southlake Carroll product, did not catch a pass this season. But he did a decent job as a blocker, including filling in at fullback.
The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Rucker, who has been on the Cowboys’ practice squad all season, has more potential as a receiving threat. He was the Browns’ fourth-round pick in 2008 but only has two career catches. The Cowboys will need him to play on special teams, as Chandler did.
The moves leave the Cowboys with an open spot on the practice squad.
