ARLINGTON, Texas -- That Jason Witten led the Cowboys with seven catches against Philadelphia should not come as a surprise.
In his 14 previous games against the Eagles Witten had 80 catches for 938 yards and four touchdowns.
On Sunday he had seven more catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Martellus Bennett had four catches for 30 yards, giving the Cowboys’ tight ends 11 of Jon Kitna’s 24 completions.
“We knew there would be some chances there,” Witten said. “Even the last couple of weeks we knew there’d be chances with their defense and the coverages. They try to keep everything in front of them and you’re not able to make big plays.”
Witten has 72 catches for 771 yards on the season. Only Atlanta’s Tony Gonzalez has more 70-catch seasons by a tight end in NFL history (10). Witten is now tied with Shannon Sharpe and Antonio Gates with five seasons of at least 70 catches.
