First start similiarities for Kitna, McGee

IRVING, Texas -- While Jon Kitna may yet play Sunday at Philadelphia with a strained left oblique muscle, there are some similarities between his first career start and what would be Stephen McGee’s first start Sunday at Philadelphia.

Kitna was 25 years old when he made his first start on Dec. 14, 1997 at the Oakland Raiders. McGee is 25.

Kitna received few practice reps during the season in Seattle. McGee received few practice reps this year with the Cowboys.

But there is a difference. Kitna said he knew during the week he would start. McGee might not know until Sunday morning.

McGee can only hope to have a similar memory to Kitna if he does play. Kitna completed 23 of 37 passes for 283 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions as Seattle came back to beat Oakland, 22-21.

Kitna’s interceptions came in the first half when the Raiders took a 21-3 lead at halftime. His touchdown came in the second half when he completed 16 of 22 passes for 147 yards. He put the Seahawks in position to win the game with a 49-yard field goal by Todd Peterson with 2:20 to play.
