IRVING, Texas -- In order to protect themselves in case Jon Kitna’s health does not improve over the next two days the Cowboys called up quarterback Chris Greisen from the practice squad Friday and placed wide receiver Sam Hurd on injured reserve.
Greisen was signed Monday and has spent the week learning the offense with 13-hour days. His promotion had been planned all along.
Kitna did some throwing Friday but said after that the injury has not progressed as much as he would have liked. He is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at Philadelphia and will travel with the team on Saturday.
Hurd, the special teams captain, was put on injured reserve after suffering from migraines this week. He is second on the team with 21 special teams tackles and has 14 catches for 120 yards.
