IRVING, Texas -- Cowboys tight ends coach John Garrett is meeting with Miami about the Dolphins’ vacant offensive coordinator spot today
Garrett arrived in Davie, Fla., on Tuesday night and he is interviewing with Tony Sparano today. According to reports, San Diego’s Rob Chudzinski is also in the mix for the post. Chudzinski played at the University of Miami and has playcalling experience when he was Cleveland’s offensive coordinator. He was also eyed by Bill Parcells for a spot on Parcells’ Cowboys staff but was not able to get out of his contract.
Garrett has not called plays but has coached quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends during his time in the NFL with the Cowboys, Arizona and Cincinnati. He served as Al Groh’s assistant head coach at the University of Virginia before joining the Cowboys in 2007 as tight ends coach.
Garrett and Sparano worked together in 2007 when Sparano was the Cowboys assistant head coach. Garrett does not have a contract with the Cowboys for 2011, but he is expected to return if he does not land the Dolphins’ job.
