IRVING, Texas -- Last week Jason Witten and Dez Bryant were honored by the Sporting News. This week it is Pro Football Weekly naming the Cowboys tight end to its first-team All-NFL team and the wide receiver to the All-Rookie team.
Pro Football Weekly and the Professional Football Writers of America compiled the team.
It is the third time Witten has been named to the team in his career. He earned the honor in 2007 and ’08. Witten led all tight ends with 94 catches for 1,002 yards with a career-high nine touchdowns. Bryant had 45 catches for 561 yards and six touchdowns and also returned two punts for scores before fracturing his ankle on Dec. 5 at Indianapolis.
While some of you wonder why DeMarcus Ware was not picked – the outside linebackers were Green Bay’s Clay Matthews and Pittsburgh’s James Harrison – I would say Mat McBriar is the bigger omission. Oakland’s Shane Lechler was picked and had a great season, just not as good as McBriar’s. McBriar led the NFL in gross average (47.9) and net average (41.7). Lechler had more punts inside the 20 and fewer touchbacks but teams had only 205 return yards vs. McBriar compred to 400 against Lechler.
