IRVING, Texas -- Mel Kiper’s first mock draft is out and he has the Cowboys selecting Nebraska corner Prince Amukamara.
Here’s Kiper’s comment to ESPN Insiders: A great value here, Amukamara is the best pure ball-hawking corner in the draft. A technician with outstanding instincts, ball skills and anticipation, he immediately provides an upgrade in the Dallas secondary. The Cowboys need help at corner, and this spot is still a tad too early to go with offensive line help based on current grades, so this makes sense. Amukamara is the kind of player that can help the pass rush and also make quick decisions turn into interceptions.
The Cowboys will have plenty of needs to fill when the draft rolls around in April. He mentioned the need for offensive linemen and said, based on current grades, that No. 9 would be too high for the top guy. Now that’s based on his current board. Things could change obviously. He has Colorado’s Nate Solder as the top tackle, going No. 12 to Minnesota. Also, I wonder if at some point a defensive end crawls up to the No. 9 spot in one of the upcoming mocks.
