With 70, Romo in position at WSGA event

Tony Romo enters the Wisconsin State Golf Association’s State Match Play Championship as the No. 2 seed, essentially, after firing a 2-under 70 Monday at The Links at Grand Geneva at Lake Geneva, Wis.

Romo tied Cam Fuller for the lowest score in the stroke-play qualifying round. The top 64 golfers advanced to match play. Romo had four birdies, an eagle and four bogeys on his round. He rallied with a birdie on No. 18 after bogeying Nos. 15 and 17.

Romo has played in this event in his home state numerous times over the years but has yet to win it. He is scheduled to play in the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe next month. However, those plans could change if the NFL lockout ends and teams decide to run an abbreviate offseason program before training camp.

Romo helped organize player-run practices in May and it is possible the Cowboys will convene again in July for more workouts if the lockout continues.
