Cowboys practice report

SAN ANTONIO -- Day 12 of Cowboys training camp saw a position switch. The team moved Kyle Kosier from left guard to right guard with the absence of Montrae Holland (back).

*Kai Forbath (quad), Teddy Williams (hamstring), Manuel Johnson (concussion), Tashard Choice (calf), DeMarco Murray (hamstring), Montrae Holland (back), Andre Gurode (knee), Titus Ryan (foot), Terence Newman (groin), Keith Brooking (hamstring), Bruce Carter (knee), Jay Ratliff (hip) all missed practice. Mike Jenkins (stinger) participated in individual drills but not team drills.

*The kickers worked out again and David Buehler went 3-of-4, making his kicks from 26, 32 and 42 yards. Buehler was wide left from 36. Dan Bailey was 4-for-4, hitting from 43, 26, 32 and 36.

*Victor Butler has been very impressive in training camp this summer. You can tell he's in shape and developing an understanding of the defense, especially Rob Ryan's 80-page playbook. Butler picked off a Stephen McGee pass during the Blue Period, which is the practice the young players participate in. Butler is always around the ball against the run and is doing a good job in pass coverage.

*Consistency for Kevin Ogletree is an issue. In Sunday's practice, Ogletree made a sideline catch but didn't fight for a first down on a third-and-short. Monday, Ogletree makes a catch near the end zone and didn't stretch into the end zone. It's the little things that frustrate the Cowboys regarding Ogletree, who runs good routes and is consistent in catching the ball.

*The Cowboys worked on special end of game situations such as punting from the end zone with the lead. Punter Mat McBriar ran across the end zone to run out the clock. Tony Romo also worked on taking a knee. The Cowboys also performed a special play where Ogletree was the punter and after taking the snap ran backward toward the end zone.

*This was a good day for some goal-line work. Abram Elam made his presence felt when on a first-and-goal, he knocked Felix Jones out of bounds with a love tap. Elam also covered Jason Witten in the end zone and with Romo under pressure, he forced a pass to the tight end that was incomplete. Rob Ryan was happy with Elam's work and patted him on the backside. Martellus Bennett was wide open for two touchdowns during the goal-line plays. Ryan talked to Elam after the play. The young linebackers continue to make good hits in this camp and Sean Lee and Kenwin Cummings stopped Lonyae Miller on a short run. Nice job by safety Barry Church to shutdown Phillip Tanner before he got into the end zone. It was a tackle for loss for Church.

*Notes: On consecutive plays, Igor Olshansky and Marcus Spears picked up tackles for loss on running plays. ... Tyron Smith is getting better. He made a nice block on Butler leading to a nice run off the edge by Jones. ... Bennett provided a good block on Clifton Geathers as Frank Tanner cut back to find some room. ... Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings was in attendance.
