Hip keeps David Buehler out of practice

ARLINGTON, Texas -- David Buehler’s attempt to win the kicking job is on hold because of a sore right hip.

Buehler did not kick during Tuesday’s practice at Cowboys Stadium after hurting the hip Monday while kicking off.

“I tried warming up to get ready for field goal at the end of practice [Monday] and it was still a little tight, so we’re just taking precautionary measures,” Buehler said. “The day off tomorrow will help.”

Buehler said he was not sure if he would be able take part in Thursday’s practice against San Diego but he will spend his off day getting treatment. He said this is the first time he has had an issue with his hip.

Dan Bailey took all of the kicks Tuesday in Buehler’s absence, making all four kicks (24, 31, 34 and 36 yards) during the special teams portion of practice, but a potential game-winning kick from 54 yards hit the right upright to close a two-minute drill.

“I want to be out there,” Buehler said. “Coach Garrett is all about situational stuff and Dan’s getting the reps right now, so it’s hard to sit back and watch that because you want to show them I can get the job done.”
