Terence Newman will start

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Terence Newman is not only playing, but the veteran cornerback will start after missing six-plus weeks with a groin injury.

Newman returned to practice Thursday after suffering a groin injury on Aug. 3 inside the Alamodome. The Cowboys were conservative with his rehab after feeling he rushed back in 2008 from a groin injury in training camp. He eventually required sports hernia surgery and missed five games.

With Newman starting and Orlando Scandrick sitting out his second straight game with an ankle injury, Alan Ball will likely work as the No. 3 cornerback spot in the slot.
