Emmitt Smith, Tony Dorsett reach out to Murray

IRVING -- The two Hall of Fame running backs DeMarco Murray surpassed in the Cowboys record book on Sunday reached out to him.

Smith contacted Murray by phone and sent him a message on Twitter. Dorsett has plans to meet with Murray on Tuesday.

Smith held the single-game rushing mark with 237 yards set Oct. 31, 1993. Smith moved past Dorsett, who previously held the mark with 206 yards.

Dorsett had the franchise mark with 206 rushing yards for a rookie coming Dec. 4, 1977. Former Cowboys running back Julius Jones came close to beating that mark in 2004 when he rushed for 198 yards at Seattle.

The next goal for Murray is to take over the starting running back job, which he's expected to do Sunday at Philadelphia with Felix Jones out with an ankle injury.

"You are always looking to compete," Murray said. "But at the same time, it's easy to compete when you are winning and have good guys on the team and wish you well and help you as much as Felix and Tashard [Choice] help me."
