Eagles now a running team too

IRVING, Texas -- For much of his time as Philadelphia’s head coach Andy Reid has been known as a passing game guru, even though he has had running backs like Duce Staley and Brian Westbrook.

That’s why it is a little surprising to see the Eagles as the NFL’s top-ranked running team, picking up 170 yards a game. Some of that can be credited to quarterback Michel Vick, who has 372 rushing yards.

But running back LeSean McCoy has 569 yards on the ground, good for seventh in the NFL, on 105 carries and six touchdowns.

“It’s totally different than what it used to be,” defensive end Jason Hatcher said of Philadelphia’s running game. “I can’t put a little description on it, but they’re No. 1 in the league. It’s weird but it’s effective. They’re making hay with it.”

The Cowboys have the NFL’s top ranked run defense, giving up 69.7 yards a game on the ground.

“If you’ve got a heartbeat, this is a game you look forward to,” linebacker Bradie James said.

McCoy ran for 149 yards on 16 carries last year at Cowboys Stadium in Philadelphia’s 30-27 win.

“He can make you miss,” James said. “He has great vision and he’s playing probably the best at his position than anybody in the league.”
