IRVING -- Juan Castillo has taken plenty of heat as the Eagles new defensive coordinator. Castillo had been the Eagles offensive line coach since 1998 before moving to defense this year.
Castillo does have defense in his background. He played linebacker at Texas A&I and with the USFL's San Antonio Gunslingers back in the 1980s. His coaching career, however, has him as just an offensive coach.
"I'm not going to defense," joked Cowboys offensive line coach Hudson Houck, who has coached in the NFL since 1983. "I think it would be extremely difficult. You have to learn on a totally [different] environment as the case with most teams. Juan's background is defense."
The Eagles are ranked 13th in total defense and 23rd vs. the run.
"It's been a process, the whole thing," Castillo said. "I think we probably started a lot slower than we thought we would but we have a lot of new guys in that room and I think you have to build chemistry."
