Play of the day: Bruce Carter's pick six

OXNARD, Calif. – The Cowboys believe that Bruce Carter can be a playmaking complement to Sean Lee at inside linebacker.

Carter provided a little evidence with a pick six during Saturday’s seven-on-seven drills.

After reading Tony Romo’s eyes, Carter jumped an underneath route by Andre Holmes, caught the ball cleanly and was off to the races.

“I’m just trying to show the coaches that I can play,” said Carter, who is competing with free-agent addition Dan Connor for a starting job. “I’m a playmaker. I just like to come out here and show my talents off.”

There is no question that Carter, who the Cowboys considered a first-round talent that slipped into the 2011 second round due to a knee injury, has exceptional speed and quickness for a 240-pound linebacker. Maybe this is the start of his athleticism translating into production.
