Tight end John Phillips 'feels good to go'

OXNARD, Calif. -- The replacement for Jason Witten doesn't believe he's the replacement.

Tight end John Phillips moves into the lead spot with rookie James Hanna backing him up. Phillips will return to a full padded practiced today after missing last week with a sprained ankle.

"Ankle is good," Phillips said after Wednesday's walkthrough practice. "All the trainers and everybody involved with it pushed the swelling out and it feels good to go."

Phillips missed the 2010 season after tearing his ACL in the preseason opener. He returned last season but it normally takes a year to fully recover from a torn ACL.

Now Phillips is expected to take over for Witten, at least during the preseason.

"You can't replace a guy like Jason Witten, the leader of this offense," Phillips said. "He's a guy you can't replace, I'm not trying to replace him. He's going to lead us from the sidelines and help us out in film room and I'm sure he'll get his body right to come back for us."
