Jenkins was removed from the physically unable to perform list Wednesday, clearing the way for him to possibly play against the Giants despite missing the entire offseason, training camp and four preseason games because of right shoulder surgery in January.
The Cowboys will have a walkthrough Thursday before an off day Friday. The first full practice for the Giants will be Saturday. Had he remained on the physically unable to perform list after Friday’s final cuts, he would have missed the first six games of the season.
Last week, coach Jason Garrett said Jenkins would have to practice some to possibly play against the Giants after missing so much time because of rehab.
Jenkins went through a tumultuous offseason in which he sought a contract extension, saw the team sign free-agent cornerback Brandon Carr to a $50.1 million deal and trade up to the sixth overall pick to select cornerback Morris Claiborne.
Jenkins, who is in the last year of his deal, worked his rehab in Florida instead of at the team’s facility and reported only to the mandatory minicamp in June and the pre-training camp in late July.
