IRVING, Texas -- As head coaches of the Cowboys and Mavericks, Jason Garrett and Rick Carlisle have developed a friendship over the last few years.
Carlisle spoke at Garrett’s football camp in Princeton, N.J., this summer and has visited the Cowboys’ training camp practices in the past. He’s also stopped by during the regular season for the Wednesday morning coaches’ meetings.
“He’s just a good friend and a great resource,” Garrett said. “He loves sports. Obviously, he’s done a great job with his team and is someone I’ve just gotten to know and he’s gotten to know some of our coaches and players. He likes to come to the Wednesday morning meeting and we love having him.”
Carlisle had been to the meetings prior to the Cowboys’ games against the New York Giants and Tampa Bay and the Cowboys won both games. He didn’t make it Seattle week and the Cowboys lost. He was at Valley Ranch this week leading up to Monday’s game against Chicago.
“He’s had a ton of success throughout his career both as a player and a coach, so I told him he’s more than welcome to come here anytime he wants to be here. We love having him around.”
