IRVING, Texas -- Cowboys defensive end Kenyon Coleman will undergo surgery today to repair a torn triceps ending his season. It now leaves the Cowboys with an open roster spot, once Coleman is officially placed on injured reserve, and the team could promote one of their two practice squad defensive linemen, Ben Bass or Robert Callaway, to the active roster.
During the preseason it seemed Bass, a Plano, Texas native, showed some promise and might have challenged some of the veterans for a roster spot, but the Cowboys released him and brought him back after he cleared waivers.
Callaway was in the same situation once he was cut, and he also has some potential along the defensive line.
The Cowboys have no interest in defensive end Ray Edwards, who was released this week.
The team could also move guard/center Kevin Kowalski from reserve/PUP to the active roster and make him inactive on game-days.
