IRVING, Texas -- Dan Connor, who was a full participant in practice Wednesday after missing the last two games with a neck strain, could return to the starting lineup Sunday against Cleveland.
Ernie Sims replaced Connor in the lineup.
Yes, Sims is a 4-3 outside linebacker who is being asked to play a weakside linebacker spot in the 3-4. Sims has compiled 10 tackles the last two weeks.
Now, Sims isn't perfect because he's still learning the scheme, yet he seems more athletic and better in pass coverage than Connor. Both players are very physical, as evident by Sims hits in the Philadelphia Eagles game Sunday, but he seems to have developed a nice pairing with starter Bruce Carter.
"Ernie's done a good job," coach Jason Garrett said Thursday morning. "Ernie was a 4-3 outside linebacker and we felt like he can make a transition playing in our scheme, and he had to learn quickly. He was here for about three days and playing a lot of snaps in a game. He’s done a good job and he’s learning more and more how to play the will linebacker position in our scheme. He’s shown up in games -- he’s not perfect by any means -- but he goes about it the right way, he’s a good player."
