ARLINGTON, Texas -- It was a bad first half for Cowboys right tackle Doug Free.
He committed two penalties (one was negated by a defensive penalty), and he allowed at least one sack. Free struggled to contain defensive end Brandon Graham in the Cowboys' 38-33 win over the Eagles on Sunday night. On the season, Free has committed an NFL-high 13 penalties.
Free was much better in the second half. Offensive line coach Bill Callahan said Free was more aggressive in his pass sets and took better angles when encountering pass-rushers.
Despite Free's early struggles, coach Jason Garrett said he didn't consider benching Free for Jermey Parnell.
"No," Garrett said. "Just keep battling in there. Doug's been a good player for us. The strength of their defense is those defensive ends. They can really rush the passer. They get in those wide-nine techniques and really come after the passer and they present some problems. Doug just has to keep battling. I thought as the game wore on he played better."
