Travis Frederick shaves his beard

FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys rookie center Travis Frederick took a year to grow his beard.

It took a barber just 20 minutes to take it off Thursday afternoon. Frederick shaved his beard to raise awareness for the families in Granbury, Texas, and Moore, Okla., that were affected by recent tornadoes. Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith also attended the event to support his teammate.

Fans who watched a barber from Floyd's 99 Barber Shop shave down the beard could donate money, goods and services to a truck parked outside 3 Stacks Smoke & Tap House.

"It's definitely a little bit cooler," Frederick said when asked about his beard being shaved down. "It's been kind of warm. It's a weird feeling. It's a great opportunity for me and it's the end of the week of OTAs and I wanted to make sure I could focus on football all week. We wanted to take the afternoon and focus on the people affected by the tornadoes. I was hoping to get some people to come out here and bring some supplies out and we got a trailer out here so we can get it to the tornado victims."

As Frederick was getting the beard shaved, tornado warnings were issued in Oklahoma and Arkansas on Thursday afternoon.
