OXNARD, Calif. -- This is the Cowboys last practice before they head to Canton, Ohio for Sunday's Hall of Fame game against the Miami Dolphins. Here's what we expect on Friday.
Full practice: Barring a sudden change, the Cowboys will have a full-padded practice on Friday afternoon. The Cowboys most likely will continue working on situational drills such as the 2-minute warning, Hail Mary, special teams and driving the ball the length of the field. Coach Jason Garrett wants the Cowboys to practice game-like situations, especially as it gets closer to an actual game.
Who won't practice: There's a laundry list of players who haven't been at practice for a variety of injuries. Here's the list: Guard Kevin Kowalski (knee), center/guard Ryan Cook (back), Ray Dominguez (shoulder), Nate Livings (knee), Mackenzy Bernadeau (hamstring), Demetress Bell (conditioning), Jermey Parnell (hamstring), James Hanna (hamstring), Jay Ratliff (hamstring), Landon Cohen (scratched cornea), Anthony Spencer (recovering from minor knee surgery), Tyrone Crawford (torn Achilles), Jeff Olson (face) and Alex Albright (back).
New guy hurt: The Cowboys signed two offensive linemen Thursday and inserted James Nelson at right tackle and Jeff Olson at left guard. Olson was nicked up during practice so the rotation at guard continues. Ronald Leary and David Arkin are expected to start the preseason opener. If Olson is unavailable, look for the Cowboys to move Travis Frederick to left guard with the second- or third-string units.
Backup middle linebackers: Backing up Sean Lee is no easy task. The Cowboys will work Caleb McSurdy and Brandon Magee into that spot during practices and the early portions of the preseason. McSurdy missed all of last season with a torn Achilles and the Cowboys have said he's moving around well. Magee was an undrafted free agent, whom the Cowboys wanted to draft in the late rounds this past spring. Magee is a physical player who can play several different spots.
Time change: The practice time has changed to 4 p.m. from 4:45 p.m.
