OXNARD, Calif. – Backup offensive tackle Darrion Weems will miss time because of a chest injury that happened off the field, not on it.
According to coach Jason Garrett, Weems had the 325-pound bench press bar slip out of his grasp and land on his chest. Weems did not practice Sunday and is not expected to practice Monday.
“He’s got this thumb issue where he can’t put his thumb around the bar, so it’s kind of an open hand and the thing just kind of rolled off on him. ... We think he’s going to be back, but I’m sure it’s pretty painful.”
Defensive tackle Sean Lissemore, linebacker Ernie Sims (groin) and safety Eric Frampton (hamstring) will miss a “few days,” according to Garrett, putting their availability for Saturday’s preseason game at Arizona in jeopardy.
The Cowboys’ final two preseason games will be at AT&T Stadium against Cincinnati on Aug. 24 and Houston on Aug. 29.
“We’re hopeful on all of them (to play when the team returns home), but I’m not so sure it’s Cincinnati for all of them,” Garrett said. “It might be Houston. Some of them might practice towards the end of the week. We’ve just got to see how they respond to stuff.”
