IRVING, Texas – Considering what Brian Waters meant to the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line, the team would have been more than happy to pay the veteran guard another $1.5 million in incentives.
With Waters now on injured reserve with a triceps injury, the Cowboys will not have to pay Waters incentive money he would have earned and for a team that will be pinching pennies in 2014, that’s about the only positive that can be taken from Waters’ injury.
Waters would have earned an extra $500,000 had he played 60 percent of the snaps this season. He could have earned an extra $500,000 for playing in 70 percent of the snaps and another $500,000 for 80 percent. He will be paid his $1.5 million base salary.
After being inactive in the season opener, Waters played 329 of a possible 431 snaps in the seven games he played.
