IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys enter Day 2 with selections in the second and third rounds.
We preview what could happen.
How many picks today: Two, 47th overall (second round) and 78th overall (third round).
Players available who they might select today: Kony Ealy, defensive end, Missouri; Timmy Jernigan, defensive tackle, Florida State; Stan Jean-Baptiste, cornerback, Nebraska; Stephon Tuitt, defensive end, Notre Dame; Demarcus Lawrence, defensive end, Boise State; Andrew Jackson, inside linebacker, Western Kentucky; Jarvis Landry, wide receiver, LSU; Howard Jones, inside linebacker, Shepherd; Yawin Smallwood, inside linebacker, Connecticut.
Outlook: The Cowboys made the smart decision in taking tackle/guard Zack Martin in the first round. The Cowboys had three defensive players ranked higher than Martin, but they were off the board when the No. 16 pick came. Today the Cowboys are seeking help on defense along the line and the secondary.
Selecting Ealy, Jernigan and Lawrence are possibilities because each visited Valley Ranch during draft visits. The Cowboys could also create competition at linebacker and have a value in Jackson, who didn't visit the Cowboys. The secondary has some issues especially at corner and if Jean-Baptiste is around that's a good pick to compete for a backup corner spot. The Cowboys are trying to create competition and get younger on this team, especially with coach Jason Garrett in the final year of his contract and the team believing Tony Romo is in his prime.
