Cowboys add TE Asa Watson

OXNARD, Calif. -- Released by the New England Patriots at the start of the week, tight end Asa Watson has signed with the Dallas Cowboys.

To make room for Watson on the 90-man roster, fellow tight end Dallas Walker was released. Walker joined the Cowboys at the start of training camp.

Rookie tight end Jordan Najvar has been bothered by an oblique strain, but could return to practice today. The Cowboys have five tight ends on the roster in Jason Witten, Gavin Escobar, James Hanna, Najvar and Watson.

Watson worked out for the Cowboys on Wednesday and had an extensive physical that concluded Thursday. He missed the 2011 season at NC State because of a heart condition. The younger brother of New Orleans Saints tight end Ben Watson, he had 27 catches for his college career.
