Cowboys re-sign Keith Smith to practice squad

IRVING, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys re-signed linebacker Keith Smith to the practice squad for the fourth time this season after releasing him from the active roster last week to make room for Dekoda Watson.

The Cowboys also signed cornerback Robert Steeples to the practice squad. To make room for Smith and Steeples, guard Jeff Baca and linebacker Will Smith were released.

Steeples worked out for the Cowboys last week and his addition is likely a precursor to the team calling up Micah Pellerin to the active roster with Tyler Patmon nursing a knee injury. The Cowboys have just three healthy cornerbacks on the 53-man roster in Orlando Scandrick, Brandon Carr and Sterling Moore.

Patmon is looking at possibly needing 2-3 more weeks to get over a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee.

Steeples played in two games for the Minnesota Vikings last season and went to camp with the Kansas City Chiefs this summer.
