Mike Jenkins feels better, could see doctor

IRVING, Texas -- The nasty scar on Mike Jenkins' right shoulder reveals what his offseason has been about: surgery and recovery.

Jenkins said he's got range of motion in his shoulder and is lifting weights, but he's not sure when he'll return to the field.

There are plans to send Jenkins back to Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla., this week, but Tropical Storm Isaac is battering the Gulf Coast and delaying the process.

Jenkins was examined by Dr. Andrews a few weeks ago, and his shoulder failed a strength test. When Jenkins gets full strength in the shoulder, he could get cleared to practice by Dr. Andrews.

After that, Cowboys doctors will have to examine him to give approval.

Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said Jenkins has a roster spot. It's uncertain if Jenkins will remain on the physically unable to perform list. If that's the case, he'll miss the first six weeks of the season but he won't count against the 53-man roster.
