Watkins to raise HIV awareness with 5K

On Saturday, Cowboys safety and special teams ace Pat Watkins and his Purpose With Faith foundation will host the first annual National HIV Testing Day 5K run/walk at Reverchon Park in Dallas starting at 7 a.m. The event will end around 11 a.m.

Watkins' foundation formed a partnership with AIDS Arms, Inc., New St. Paul Baptist Church and Racing Systems to raise awareness on the HIV health epidemic in Dallas. The groups will encourage race participants to get tested and the screeings will be provided on-site by AIDS Arms, Inc.

"I want to have a long-standing community presence in Dallas,” Watkins said in a statement. "In order to that Purpose With Faith will continue to have events, like the 5K, and create programs that have a purpose and make a difference to the health and well-being of the community."

Watkins created his foundation last year to provide a safe and structured environment for under-served youth. It also focuses on social-emotional, academic and the physical development for young people.
