According to a source, the Cowboys won't get a new deal worked out with defensive end Anthony Spencer by today's 3 p.m. CT deadline for franchise tag players to sign new contracts.
The Cowboys and Spencer's agent, Jordan Woy, had worked on a new deal for most of the summer but suspended talks in late June. Spencer will be paid $10.6 million this season.
Spencer isn't the only player participating under the franchise tag. Bills safety Jairus Byrd, Chiefs left tackle Branden Albert, Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson, Colts punter Pat McAfee, Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton and Dolphins defensive tackle Randy Starks are the others.
Byrd is the only player who hasn't signed his one-year deal.
