FORT WORTH, Texas -- It is evident the tee shot at No. 14 does not suit John Daly’s eye.
After flirting with out-of-bounds on the right in Friday’s second round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, another misguided drive in the same area in today’s thid round cost Daly two strokes.
Daly was forced to re-tee on the 449-yard, dogleg left par 4 and made par on his second ball, thanks to a sand save, but still walked away with a six because of the out-of-bounds penalty. He bogeyed the hole on Friday.
For the week, the average driving distance for "Long John'' is 290 yards, but he has hit only 14 of 42 fairways.
Daly, surviving the 36-hole cut at Colonial for only the second time in seven tries, got a stroke back with his fourth birdie of the day at No. 15 and finished with an even-par 70. He’s currently tied for 28th at 1-under overall.
