Caddie change works for Adam Scott

FORT WORTH, Texas -- With a new caddie on his bag, Adam Scott made six birdies on the way to an opening-round 66 Thursday in the 65th Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

Scott is tied for 11th place, four shots off the lead of David Toms. A fourth of the field has yet to tee off.

Mick Doran was hired by Scott on Monday, three days after getting his marching papers from Camilo Villegas.

Doran, 41, has been a caddie for 22 years. He replaced Tony Navarro, Scott’s caddie since 2004. The two also parted ways last week.

“It went well today,’’ Doran said. “If he asked me a question, I told him what I thought. I’ve been doing this a long time.’’

Said Scott: “Everything was great today. Just a regular round.’’

Doran said his only prior experience with Scott was in the HSBC World Matchplay at Wentworth. Scott was ousted in the first round.
