Over 70 apply for DeSoto football coach job

Today is the final day the DeSoto ISD is accepting applications for the vacant football head coaching position at DeSoto High.

Claude Mathis, Eagles head coach the last four years, resigned in early January to become running backs coach at the University of Houston.

DeSoto athletic director Pam Deborde said the school district has received over 70 applications through Thursday and that candidate screening would begin on Monday.

Deborde said the plan is to bring in the top 10 to 12 applicants for interviews by the middle of this month with the hope of naming the new coach by Feb. 24.
