South Garland owes its 2-0 record and No. 10 ranking in ESPNDallas.com's Class 5A poll to one thing -- making plays when it counts.
Both of the team’s wins were clinched in the clutch, including last week against Arlington Martin.
Down by six with less than two minutes remaining, Martin breached the South Garland red zone, but the Colonels forced a turnover on downs and went on to win, 27-14.
In its season opener against Richardson Berkner, South Garland erased a 17-0 deficit and won in overtime, 24-17.
The Colonels are expected to contend with Garland (1-1) for the District 10-5A crown behind running back tandem John Lacour and Stephan Turner, who’ve rushed for 217 and 161 yards, respectively.
South Garland hosts Plano West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
