Arlington Seguin got its offense back into gear in Friday’s 40-21 win at Burleson, and not a moment too soon.
The Cougars (4-4, 2-3) kept their playoff hopes alive in District 7-4A with two games remaining in the regular season: home to Mansfield Summit on Friday and at 1-7 Cleburne the following week.
Seguin snapped a three-game losing streak and a touchdown drought in last week’s win.
Quarterback Dorsey Griffin, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound senior, completed 15-of-21 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. He added for 72 rushing yards and a score on 16 carries. Seguin gained 463 yards of offense.
Jordan Hicks provided perhaps the game’s biggest play with a 72-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter to give the Cougars the lead for good.
In prior losses to Granbury and Crowley, Seguin could muster a total of only two touchdowns.
Seguin is in a fifth-place tie with Burleson in the 7-4A standings as it prepares for Summit (6-2, 4-1.) Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Arlington’s Wilemon Stadium.
