For the Fort Worth Dunbar girls basketball team, the 2010 portion of this season's schedule turned into a lost cause.
There is still time to rescue at least a playoff berth, but Dunbar will probably need to win its remaining six games.
The District 6-4A executive committee last week ruled that the team’s 18 wins in November and December must be forfeited because a team member that played in all of Dunbar’s games in the first two months of the season did not live within the school’s attendance zone. Among the forfeits were seven district wins.
On top the standings before the ruling, Dunbar (5-22, 5-7 in 6-4A) is now in sixth place in with six games remaining. The Lady Wildcats are two games out of fourth place, the cutoff for qualifying for the playoffs.
Fort Worth Western Hills leads the district with an 11-1 record. Fort Worth Trimble Tech is a game back at 10-2. Fort Worth Arlington Heights and Fort Worth Southwest are tied for third with 7-5 district records.
Dunbar still has games remaining against Southwest, Trimble Tech and Western Hills.
On Friday, the Lady Wildcats face Fort Worth Carter-Riverside.
