Dallas Molina senior Diondre Preston, who is paralyzed from the neck down after being injured during a September football game, was presented with the ESPN Rise Leadership Award at his home in Desoto on Saturday.
The award was scheduled to be handed out Thursday at Molina as part of ESPN Rise High School Day during Super Bowl week, but the event was cancelled because of the winter storm that gripped the area.
Preston, who played quarterback for Molina, was chosen for the award because of the way he's inspired others with his positive attitude after suffering a spinal cord injury and being confined to a wheelchair.
He remains on pace to graduate with his class this spring.
“I haven’t given up on the important things,” he said. “I still plan on graduating. I still want to go to college. I’m going to continue on with my life. And I’m still going to make people happy.”
