Johnathan Gray is about to make one college football program very happy.
The Aledo junior, considered to be the top high school running back in Texas, has scheduled a press conference for Friday morning on his high school campus to announce his oral commitment choice.
TCU, Texas and Texas A&M are reported to be highest on Gray’s list, but he has not revealed which school he will select.
Gray (5-foot-10, 195 pounds), the ESPN RISE Mr. Football USA national player of the year, rushed for 3,221 yards and established a Texas single-season record for rushing touchdowns with 59. He scored 368 points.
He helped Aledo go 16-0 and win its second consecutive Class 4A Division II state title.
In Aledo’s 69-34 rout of La Marque in the championship game, Gray rushed for 323 yards and eight touchdowns at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
