Which will prevail? Irving MacArthur’s brilliant backcourt or Duncanville’s powerful front line.
Two ESPN Rise Fab 50 girls basketball teams meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a Class 5A Region I quarterfinal at Arlington Lamar High School.
At stake is a berth in the 8 p.m. Region I semifinal Friday night in Fort Worth.
MacArthur (35-1) is No. 22 nationally and No. 3 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches state rankings.
Duncanville (33-3) is No. 33 nationally and No. 4 in the state.
MacArthur won the two previous meetings of the District 7-5A rivals, 69-56 on Jan. 2 in Irving and 67-57 on Jan. 26 in Duncanville.
Irving MacArthur’s Odyssey Sims (No. 3 prospect nationally in ESPNU’s HoopGurlz 2010 Class) and sophomore backcourt mate Alexis Jones have accounted for 86 percent of the Lady Cardinals’ scoring in the two prior Duncanville games.
The 5-8 Sims, a Baylor recruit, has torched Duncanville with games of 36 and 27 points.
Forward Akil Simpson (5-11 senior), post Bunny Williams (6-2 junior) and forward Sha Turner (6-0 senior) have played well for Duncanville.
Duncanville led at the end of low-scoring first halves of previous games only to be outscored by a combined 86-50 in the final two quarters.
The winner advances to meet the North Crowley-Mansfield Summit winner.
