Euless Trinity stopped a last-ditch drive by Round Rock Stony Point for a 35-28 win in the Class 5A Division I semifinal and will advance to the state championship game against Austin Westlake at 2 p.m. next Saturday in the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Round Rock drove from its 15 to midfield in the final two minutes, but sophomore safety Lliau Moeakiola broke up a fourth down pass from Gus Barrerra intended for Stephen Williams running up the middle of the field. Trinity ran out the final 40 seconds.
A key play was a Trinity fake punt from its own 16 with four minutes left leading by only seven points. Antonio Gonzalez went 28 yards, giving Trinity key field position when it did finally punt with 2:26 remaining.
