No. 2 Euless Trinity faces big-play Duncanville

7:30 p.m. Friday at Irving Schools Stadium

What: Class 5A Division I Region I bi-district game.

When we saw them last: Trinity capped its second straight 10-0 regular season with a 34-7 victory over 3-7 Irving MacArthur as Joel Kimpela rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns. Duncanville quarterback Deandre Grimes threw for 166 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 245 yards and two scores in a 56-55 overtime victory over 7-3 Cedar Hill.

Last in the playoffs: Trinity lost in the Class 5A Division I state final to Pearland, 28-24, in 2010. Duncanville lost a Class 5A Division I area playoff to Coppell, 35-10, in 2010.

What’s at stake: The winner will face the winner of the bi-district game between Allen (10-0) and Keller Central (8-2) in a 5A DI area playoff.

Key matchup: If Trinity can hog the ball and control the clock with its power running game, it can keep the ball away from Duncanville’s explosive offense that features Grimes, running back Jaquan Cole and receiver Jeff Thomas. Duncanville’s speed could be a problem for the Trojans, whose starters haven’t had to play a full game since Week 4. Trinity’s defense has forced eight fumbles and intercepted 11 passes while limiting opponents to an average of 195 yards per game.

Players to watch: Trinity linebacker Brian Nance is a tackling machine. Defensive back Laiu Moeakiola and offensive lineman Hiva Lutui have orally committed to UCLA. Duncanville receiver Thomas is a Colorado commit. Cole has run for 1,190 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Prediction: It's hard to go against Trinity and its 26-3 playoff record over the last six years. Trinity 31, Duncanville 21.
