Euless Trinity attempts to reach a Class 5A state championship game for the third time this decade when it faces Round Rock Stony Point in a Division I state semifinal Saturday at damp, chilly Waco ISD Stadium.
Trinity (12-2) has been excellent in odd years, winning state titles in 2005 and 2007. The Trojans, who have won 11 straight since starting 1-2, depend on ball control with a stable of running backs. Junior Terrance Tusan (5-5, 143) is the leading rusher with 1,084 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Stony Point (13-1) is limiting opponents to an average of 11.5 points per game. Junior defensive lineman Jordan Wade (6-4, 269) has 14 sacks on the season.
The winner will head to the Alamodome in San Antonio to meet the winner of Austin Westlake-Katy Cinco Ranch. Westlake currently leads, 28-14.
