What a difference a year makes for Southlake Carroll at the quarterback position.
The morning of its 2010 opener against Copperas Cove, former scheduled starting quarterback Daxx Garman was ruled ineligible for the season. The Dragons lost the game, 35-14.
In the rematch against Copperas Cove on Friday, Kenny Hill turned in an amazing performance in a 38-31 comeback win.
Hill threw for 402 yards and four touchdowns in addition to scoring on a 9-yard run in the final seconds to give Carroll the win after it trailed 28-17 early in the third quarter.
The junior showed his trademark efficiency, too. He completed more than 70 percent of his passes, most of which went to receivers Peyton Williams (145 yards, one touchdown) and Sabian Holmes (167 yards, two touchdowns).
Hill’s performance overshadowed those of Copperas Cove QB Orlando Thomas, a Texas commit, and running back Brandon Hamilton. Both had huge games running the ball, gaining 178 and 165 yards, respectively.
Carroll (1-0), which rose two spots to No. 4 in the ESPNDallas.com 5A area rankings, hosts Hurst L.D. Bell (1-0) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
