Dirk: 'It's a shot I've got to make'

DALLAS -- It's a shot few other power forwards in NBA history would even attempt.

It's a shot we've come to expect to drop for Dirk Nowitzki, especially with the game on the line.

But three variations of clutch, spinning turnarounds didn't go down for Dirk during Saturday night's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. He missed a potential game-winner in the final seconds of regulation and twice failed to tie the game in the last minute of overtime with long-limbed Nicolas Batum harassing him.

There is a long list of reasons the Mavs lost to the beat-up Trail Blazers. It never should have come down to needing Dirk to hit yet another clutch shot.

But that's what happened, leading the big German to take the blame.

"I had a good look at the game-winner out of the spin move," Dirk said. "It’s a shot I’ve got to make for game. Then, in overtime, same thing. I had a couple of good shots, a couple of good turnarounds. So it’s definitely a tough one to swallow."
