Mavs pull it out, get 5th straight win

DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki finshed with 31 points and nine rebounds and Jason Terry poured in 30 points as the Mavericks pulled off a big win over the Los Angeles Lakers, 101-96, Wednesday night at the AAC.

Terry scored 18 in the first half to help take the Mavs to halftime down 50-49 after trailing 48-39 moments earlier. The win gives the Mavs their third five-game win streak of the season. They'll go for a season-high six Friday night at Atlanta.

The night started with disappointment as newly acquired swingman Caron Butler was a surprise scratch due to a reaction to medication. The Mavs just came out more determined. They got a great effort from center Brendan Haywood, who finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, a pair of assists and five block shots. He played every bit as well as his Lakers counterpart Andrew Bynum (10 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks).

Jason Kidd was again the ringleader, controling the tempo, playing big minutes (40) while putting up another big-time line: 14 points, 13 assists, seven rebounds and just two turnovers.
