Butler keeps Mavs in it

PORTLAND -- That might have been Caron Butler's best offensive half as a Maverick.

Butler broke out of his mini-slump with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Half of those points came after Portland's lead swelled to nine late in the second quarter.

Too bad Butler's half didn't end well.

He got T'd up for jawing after knocking down a 3-pointer. He apparently thought he got hit on the elbow and had a few words for the ref, but the T was called for taunting. Not sure what that was all about. Jason Terry certainly didn't agree with the call, ripping off his mask and running toward the ref.

Perhaps the Mavs should have been more worried about playing defense. Brandon Roy sliced right through the Dallas D for an easy layup on the half's last possession.

That 4-0 run stretched the Blazers' lead back to six, 60-54.
