DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki did some subtle lobbying to the officials while chatting with the media Monday afternoon.
"I don't think you can get much more physical," Dirk said. "It's already wrestling out there."
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich didn't have much interest in discussing the issue. Informed of Nowitzki's comments and asked whether he thought this had been a physical series, Popovich said: "Not especially. No."
Maybe not by Spurs standards, but the Mavs consider this basically a backyard basketball brawl.
Of course, Popovich got his lobbying with the refs in early in the series, slyly complimenting Dirk's ability to sell fouls between Games 1 and 2.
Dirk shot a dozen free throws in Game 1. He hasn't hit double figures since then, averaging 7.7 free throws in the last three wrestling matches.
