DALLAS -- The Mavs can only hope this is the beginning of a trend. For the second consecutive game, Caron Butler caught fire in the third quarter.
Butler had 12 points while the Mavs broke the game open in the third quarter of Saturday night's win over the Heat. He followed that up with a baker's dozen in the third tonight while the Mavs stretched their lead to double digits over the Rockets.
Butler had an 11-point scoring spree over a four-minute span. He accounted for the majority of the Mavs' points during a 17-6 run, knocking down jumpers from a variety of spots on the floor.
And Butler wasn't done. He knocked down another jumper minutes later, giving him 13 points in the quarter and 19 in the game.
The 12 points was Butler's season-high scoring output in a quarter. It took him only two days and two quarters to better it.
Mavs 83, Rockets 71 entering the fourth quarter.
