DALLAS – An 11-game winning streak at this point of the season is no reason to celebrate.
Heck, it isn’t even reason enough for Rick Carlisle to smile.
“The streak is not significant to me at all,” Carlisle said. “It’s how we’re playing and whether we’re improving, whether we’re gaining ground or whether we’re just sitting there spinning our wheels. You’ve got to get better.”
Carlisle does believe the Mavs have gotten better over the last 11 games. They just aren’t good enough.
“We’re doing a lot of things well,” Carlisle said, “but we’re not where we need to be to get where we want to go.”
Carlisle certainly isn’t the only man in Mavs land to feel that way. Owner Mark Cuban is encouraged by the Mavs’ season so far, but he’s far from satisfied.
“Sometimes we say, this is what it takes to win this game,” Cuban said. “And that’s my biggest concern with this team. We try to win games instead of focusing on executing 48 minutes so that we’re championship caliber. But that’s been my concern with every team.”
